JENTADUETO (LINAGLIPTIN/METFORMIN HYDROCHLORIDE)

Overview

Jentadueto (Linagliptin/Metformin Hydrochloride) is an immediate-release medicine which is used to treat type 2 diabetes. It is moreover an oral prescription drug. Jentadueto is, however, the brand name under which a combination of 2 generic drugs, i.e. Linagliptin and Metformin Hydrochloride, is sold.

How It Works

Linagliptin and Metformin Hydrochloride are 2 drugs which are used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. They can be used separately or together. Linagliptin helps to increase the production of insulin in the body. Insulin helps to remove sugar from the blood by breaking down glucose. It also helps to reduce the amount of glucose produced by the liver. Whereas Metformin Hydrochloride works by reducing the amount of sugar made by the liver. It also prevents glucose from being reabsorbed by the body by improving the function of insulin. This is how Jentadueto drug works to control blood sugar. It works best with diet and exercise.

Dosage

  • Not recommended for children under 18 years.
  • Adult Dosage:
  • When no Metformin is taken: 2.5 mg Linagliptin and 500 mg twice a day with meals.
  • When Metformin is taken: 2.5 mg Linagliptin and current dose of metformin twice a day.
  • Recommendations for the highest dosage of Linagliptin goes up to 2.5 milligrams and 1000 milligrams
  • Metformin twice daily (5 milligrams Linagliptin and 2000 milligrams metformin daily)
  • Dosage for patients with renal impairment: eGFR below 45 millilitres: Not recommended for Initiation and Continuation of the drug.

Common Side Effects

  • Serious Side Effects:
  • Allergic reaction
  • Pancreatitis: Symptoms are, for instance:
  1. Swollen stomach
  2. Nausea and vomiting
  3. Severe pain in stomach travelling to back
  • Lactic Acidosis: Symptoms are, for instance:
  1. Irregular heartbeat
  2. Muscle pain
  3. Stomach pain
  4. Nausea
  5. Vomiting and diarrhoea
  • Auto-immune Reaction: Symptoms are, for instance:
  1. Blisters on skin
  2. Itchy skin
  • Heart failure: Symptoms are, for instance:
  1. Breathlessness
  2. Weight gain
  • Severe Joint pain
  • Low Blood Sugar
  • Common Side Effects:
  • Sore Throat
  • Diarrhoea
  • Cold
  • Headache

These are however some side effects of Jentadueto drug. If you face any symptoms to illustrate, call for immediate medical help.

How to Take This Medication

  • Please take it as and when prescribed by the doctor, specifically.
  • Read the instructions and directions carefully indeed.
  • Take this drug twice a day with meals.
  • If you miss a dose, don’t take 2 doses at once.
  • If you overdose, get immediate medical help, above all.
  • Take this medicine along with diet and exercise accordingly.

Warnings and Precautions

  • Important Warning:
  • Lactic Acidosis: Jentadueto (Linagliptin/Metformin Hydrochloride may cause Lactic Acidosis in some patients. It is however very fatal.
  • Other Warnings and Precautions:
  • Don’t take Jentadueto if you have/are, for instance:
  1. Lactic Acidosis
  2. Diabetic Ketoacidosis
  3. Allergic reaction
  • Inform your doctor if you have/are, for instance:
  1. Kidney Problems
  2. Heart Problems
  3. Liver Problems
  4. Pancreatitis
  5. Gallstones
  6. High triglycerides
  7. Lactic Acidosis
  8. Going to have a surgery
  9. Going to have an x-ray or CT scan
  10. Pregnant or planning to get pregnant, of course
  11. Breastfeeding
  12. Taking other medication, similarly
  • Avoid drinking alcohol, specifically.
  • Moreover, the risk of unwanted pregnancy as it may stimulate ovulation in older women.
  • It is however not recommended for children under 18 years.
